JMeans released the sequel to his debut album, chronicling the entry Jaythoven 2. In the opening track “Intro,” we're introduced to a dynamic combining a (classic) sample and intimate truths. A track that compelling is usually expected to be the closing track, but it set the bar rather high, and progressing through the project, JMeans didn't disappoint. “Right Now” is more energetic, so it's a stark shift into a faster, more formulaic, and commercialized project. The departure from the soulful and tender opening, “Right Now,” is more palatable; objectively, it's a very strong piece but focuses more on catchiness. Both “Time Will Tell” & “Jaythoven, Pt. 3” continue that embodiment of classic rap and cultural relevance where JMeans thrives. “Chico DeBarge” has a staple New York Hip-Hop sound with the backtrack. “Sacrifices” is reminiscent of very early 2000s structure and musicality. “Reflect” was a wholesome and fitting conclusion to this album, an album that unsurprisingly lands a very positive score.

Key Points

  • Acclaimed: His rapport is backed by talent, execution, and diligence. That combination makes this project not only a successor but yet another milestone.
  • Streak: As a continuation of his debut album, this installment would make this series very entertaining and impressive to both listeners and critics.
  • Strong Theme: This project is a prime example of how thorough and experienced JMeans is as an emcee.
