The TOOGOOD Open Mic has been a place of expression of talent for the locals. It's one avenue where different artists from walks of life and style come together-sharing art on stage. These open mic nights have fast become part of the community. On July 8th, Xella Red gave a live set at the locale. Xella Red is the new underground alternative rapper hailing from the South Side of Chicago. Music became a significant means of self-expression at the age of 13. By adding this fact to her biography, her works become even more impressive, but just with a little hint of darkness. In music, Xella finds her inspiration in artists such as Kanye West, Rihanna, Adele, but also her uncle Benji Glo, who has been around rapping for quite some time. This varied mix has helped her create a unique style that is both alternative and trap.
