MATISSE

Sophie Nyson, professionally known as the musical artist MATISSE (formerly MATISSE ZUZU), is a songwriter and singer born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Influenced by artists such as London Grammar, AURORA, and Björk, as well as American artists Simon and Garfunkel, Roy Orbison, and Lana Del Rey. She’s already released songs of baroque pop, synthwave, EDM, Americana, and folk, influences. MATISSE has worked with industry talents, including producer Roy Kerr (The Freelance Hellraiser) and American songwriter Jonny Polonsky.

Her debut single, “Past Tense," was released on August 5, 2022. She officially re-released the project after collaborating with producer Roy Kerr. MATISSE also released the official music video on August 5, 2022. Her EDM follow-up, titled “Release Me,” featured musical artist and producer Neil Nines. “The Vine” was written by MATISSE in collaboration with Brady Stablein (the lead singer of Brother Elsey). The track was recorded in Jonny Polonsky’s New York studio and at Mark Lavengood’s Michigan studio, “The Bear Den.” The track was produced and mixed by 3-time Grammy Award-winning producer Marc Urselli, who completed the production. Currently, MATISSE has an upcoming EP in development slated for later release.
