The Inspiration Behind "Dropping the Ball"

JVZEL explained the inspiration behind the project, stating, “Dropping the ball was my exploration of the other side of having everything you ever wanted. Once you have everything you ever wanted in any capacity, that's the moment that you finally have something to lose. I feel like there's less risk in operating up until the moment where you have everything you've ever wanted. There's less risk. The song is almost about a fear of failure. It's not all the time I've had something to lose. I've gone through my life so much having nothing, having nothing to lose, and having nothing to lose is kind of an empowering place. So this position of knowing what you have to lose is scary—kind of scary. Dropping the ball puts it on the other person, but really, everything is a projection. I'm putting it on the other person, like, Oh, you're afraid to drop the ball; you're just afraid to lose. like I'm projecting. I'm afraid to lose. It's kind of like, if you're at the top of a high mountain, of course, the thought of, Oh my god, what if, what if I like misstep. Like, what if I fall? If you're at the tip top of a super-high, super-high mountain, the thought is gonna cross your mind. It's gonna cross anyone's mind. Of course you're not gonna ruminate there, and like, it's not gonna ruin the view, the experience, and your feeling of being at the top but it's gonna cross your mind."
