athiiko (Ako or Athina) is a multi-talented musician, producer, actress, model, fashion designer, songwriter, and manager for multiple independent artists. She is self-taught in all of her fields of expertise. At eight years old, athiiko began playing instruments such as the piano, guitar, and violin. Since the age of eleven, athiiko has battled several mental health disorders; two years later, she participated in a talent competition, making it to the finals and overcoming some of her anxiety. athiiko had a lot of suppressed emotions due to her toxic domestic environment and bullying. Music became her outlet and escape from her situation(s). She dropped out of school at 15 and began her journey of self-discovery. Two years later, she moved to Cape Town, South Africa. She spent years in isolation, learning both production and mixing music. She began networking through a label and helped in artist development. She had created a foundation for her career at eighteen. She met her future partner, BBYQUAN, while living with a group of young creatives. He is a famous rapper, singer, producer, performer, DJ, and model.
athiiko debuted on November 27th, 2020, releasing “white line, pt.1." BBYQUAN became her love interest. They moved in together and frequently made projects, allowing her to experiment with different sounds and find her voice. Some listeners to her music claimed it helped them through difficult situations and struggles. The issues that influenced her music positively impacted those who had the same battles. Her inspirations range from XXXTentacion, TeamSeshBones, Killstation, Lana Del Ray, R&B, etc. Her interest in psychology and passion for literature also impacted her creative process. athiiko has four upcoming projects which she has been working on for three years. She's to perform in South Africa until she returns to Europe with BBYQUAN in 2024 (where her first tour is located). Her debut album Borderlands, has multiple collaborations. An EP with BBYQUAN will be released in December. January 2024 will also usher in her project “Ballads of a Banshee."
